What happens when your child gets sick or injured while at school

In the case that your child will need emergency treatment while in school, the Brooklawn Ambulance Service will be called.  You will be contacted immediately after with full details of your child's care.

For minor injuries or illnesses, the parent/guardian will be contacted, if they can not be reached, the emergency contact person will be called.  For this reason, please keep all phone numbers current.

If your child needs to take medication during the
school day

If your child is required to take medication during school hours, the school nurse must be advised and a medication administration form must be filled out.  Prescription medications must be signed by the child's physician.   All over-the-counter medication must be in its original container.  All medication must be brought in by the parent/guardian and sent to the nurse's office.

If your child has head lice

No need to panic or get embarrassed, between 8-12 million children a year get head lice.

Head checks will be done throughout the year for the detection/prevention of outbreaks of lice. If your child is found to have lice, they will be sent home immediately.  Understand that you hardly ever get rid of head lice on the first try, your child will need a couple of treatments of head lice medication.

Before your child may return to school, you must call the nurse's office to set up a time for a head re-check.
