Policy Issues

Q/ How do I obtain a PowerSchool login (user id/password) to access a student’s grades?

A/ An information brochure will be sent home to parents detailing the program and policies and procedures. Parents will then come to the building to request an application for a user id and password. Proof of guardianship must be provided at that time. The application will be completed and signed by the parent. The parent will then be required to attend a 20 minute instructional session, during which they will receive the needed information to log on to the system. All users of the system will be required to attend a session before logon privileges will be given. These sessions will be scheduled periodically throughout the school year. No one will receive access without attending this mandatory session.

Q/ May I change my password?

A/ No, the system assigns id’s and passwords and these are non-changeable.

Q/ What happens if I lose my password?

A/ You must come in to school and request a replacement password. A new one will be delivered to you in person only. We do not transmit password information via e-mail or US mail.

Q/ Why will I need a different logon for each of my children?

A/ The PowerSchool logon takes you directly to one child’s information. Unfortunately, there is no possible way to view multiple students with one logon. This is a limitation of the software; therefore, parents will receive a different logon for each child.

Q/ May I view my child’s grades at any time or is it limited to certain times of the day?

A/ Parent access is not restricted to any time and is available 24 hours a day.

Q/ When can I expect grades to be posted on Power School?

A/ It is reasonable to expect teachers to have grades posted in the system in approximately 10 school days following the completion of an assignment. Major projects such as reports may take longer. Parents should be reminded that this system is provided as a convenience. Grades and other information provided by the system are not official records and may or may not be accurate until verified by the school administrators at the end of each marking period. Neither this school nor Apple Computers, Inc. accepts any responsibility for information provided by this system and/or for any damages resulting from information provided by this system. For official grades and student records, contact your child’s instructor. Part-time teacher grade entry may be delayed by their schedules as well.

Q/ What is the proper procedure I should follow if I have a question regarding my child’s grades in a class?

A/ The same policy should be followed as in any other instance. The parent should contact the teacher one time via e-mail (teacher e-mail addresses are all included in the PowerSchool system). This will result in a timely discussion and resolution to your question.

Q/How soon can I expect a response from my child’s teacher when I contact them with a question?

A/ Your child’s teacher will respond within 48 hours during the school week and in 72 hours if over the weekend. This of course may vary if a teacher is absent from school or if the teacher is on a part-time schedule.

Q/ Why does it bring up a logon screen every so often when I’m in PowerSchool?

A/ PowerSchool requires parents to re-logon after 10 minutes of inactivity. Simply logging on again returns the parent to the active screen they were on.

Q/ I’ve added up the total number of points my student has accumulated in a class and divided it by the total number of points possible and come up with a different grade than what’s showing in PowerSchool. How can this be explained?

A/ This difference is possibly due to the weighting applied according to the weighted grade scale in place. Tests and quizzes, for example, may be weighted differently than homework of class projects.

Q/ What happens if I am having trouble using Power School?

A/ The school will not be a support-provider. Proper training will be given at the onset.  No phone calls or e-mails for technical support will be handled.

Q/ I have tried several times to log on and may have done it incorrectly. Now I cannot log on at all. What causes this?

A/ After five (5) unsuccessful logins, your computer will be blocked by its IP address. You must notify the school so that your IP address can be unblocked.

Q/ Power School seems to function differently for each of my children. What could be the cause of this?

A/ Different grade levels use the software in different manners. Grades 1-2 use the system minimally for grading, so much less information will be visible to the parent. Grades Pre-K to Kindergarten do not use the system at all.

Parental abuse of the system and its policy will result in termination of their account for the remainder of the school year. Each case will be individually reviewed by the I-Zone. Instances such as repeated e-mails, inappropriate language in e-mail correspondence, and not following the proper chain of command are considered violations and may result in termination of user log in privileges.

All parents desiring access must sign an agreement form to be provided, agreeing to all of the established policies for proper use.
